Allston has a wide variety of restaurants and nightlife do to its sophisticated and eclectic population.  From the long-time resident, to the working person, to the college student, there is something for everyone in Allston.  A good place to start for dining out is always in the Harvard Square area.  Keeping with the rich Irish tradition of Allston, Tommy Doyle’s is the largest Irish Pub and Restaurant and has a very popular menu.  There are Irish classics, American staples, fresh seafood, burgers, and more.  This fixture of Harvard Square has three floors to accommodate the many patrons.

John Harvard’s Brew House is another popular restaurant in Harvard Square.  It was the winner of the Best Microbrewery/Restaurants in Boston two years in a row.  The unique microbrewery is featured in the restaurant and patrons can see how the brew is actually made.  The Grafton Street Pub & Grill, located at 1230 Massachusetts Avenue, also called the Gateway of Harvard Square, is considered a hotspot for the area.  It is named after the cobblestone-lined Temple Bar area of Dublin, Ireland.  The restaurant features over 5,000 square feet of space in a comfortable setting.

For the seafood lover, Dolphin Seafood is a must visit.  This restaurant has over 30 years experience in offering the freshest seafood that comes directly hand-picked from the Boston piers.  It is located at 1105 Massachusetts Avenue in the heart of Harvard Square.  For those who have a taste in the finer things, a great place is the Atrium Dining Room at the Inn at Harvard.   The opulent and fresh atmosphere of this classic hotel sets the stage for some of the most exquisite dishes served up in the area.  The dinner menu changes seasonally to reflect the changing tastes throughout the year.

Of course, the day is not complete without dessert – and Allston has a little bit of everything.  The most popular are the ice cream venues.  There is Ben & Jerry’s ice cream shop that serves over thirty fabulous flavors and also features shakes, sorbet splashes, and smoothies.  J.P Licks has been making homemade ice cream and non-fat frozen yogurt since 1981.  The bittersweet hot fudge is made from scratch and they roast their own organic coffee.  And finally, offering ice cream and a whole lot mor, the Finale Desserterie & Bakery is known for its award winning desserts.
